Whilst most endodontic treatments can be performed under local anaesthesia, we offer treatment under Intravenous Sedation for very anxious patients and for most surgical procedures. It is not a general anaesthetic and although conscious, you are in a total relaxed state throughout the procedure.
Intravenous Sedation is provided by a qualified Medical Practitioner, Dr. Firoz Vellani.
Dr. Firoz Vellani obtained his medical degree in 1992 from the University of Sydney. He went on to do further training in the fields of Anaesthetics, Intensive Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Vellani has over 20 years’ experience in providing sedation for dental procedures and now maintains a full time practice in this field.
Dr. Vellani has developed a special interest in procedural anaesthetics and dental sedation and currently provides this service to many leading dentists and dental specialists in Sydney, including endodontists, oral surgeons, periodontists and prosthodontists.
Dr. Vellani has provided intravenous sedation at this practice since 1998.
A portion of the fee for Intravenous Sedation is reimbursable from Medicare.
Our radiology licensed specialists follow the principles of ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) when considering taking X-Rays as part of your treatment. This safety principle is designed to minimize radiation doses for patients.
Since 2014, the practice is one of a small number which has a state of the art cone beam CT scanner, Veraviewepocs 3D by Morita. This allows a 3D image of your tooth/ teeth and surrounding structures to be taken. This enhances diagnosis, as studies have shown 30%-40% of abscesses cannot be visualized through ordinary X-Ray. The ability to assess the inside of your tooth additionally brings clarity and identifies complex canal anatomy, which helps treatment planning and the chances of successful treatment.
Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and treatment options.
Occasionally treatment can be carried out on the same day as the initial consultation however a complex medical history or treatment plan or patients requiring Intravenous Sedation for treatment will require a separate consultation, at which time appropriate treatment appointments will be made.
Please assist us by completing the First Appointment Form.
IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.
The fee for endodontic therapy is determined by the complexity of the tooth being treated. When a surgical procedure is indicated before, or becomes evident during or after endodontic therapy, a separate fee will be charged.
Consultation fees are payable at the time of consultation. It is the policy of this office that fees for treatment are paid in full at the completion of the treatment appointment.
